Six Minutes of Mishaps

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch with the Boppy feeding Drew as is our normal every three hour routine. After he was done eating I start burping him. Knowing this burping process can take a while, and most times he does not even burp, I am always prepared that when I lean him back, spit up is very likely. Putting a bib on him usually helps keep his oneise clean but not always! This was one of those days. Just as I got the bib around his neck he exploded sending spit up past the bib, on the oneise and reaching my stomach and shorts! As I started wiping and up his volcanic explosion, I noticed evidence of another problem on the towel covering the Boppy. What appeared to be poop was on the edge of the towel from where he was laying to eat. Lifting a leg to better inspect the ruffles of his diaper, sure enough we had gooey leak.

I carefully picked him up and held him away from me trying to minimize the mess we were making as I carried him to his nursery. I laid him down on his changing pad, unsnapped his onesie, pulled the Velcro strips back from his diaper and the MOMENT I pulled back the diaper, pee goes streaming through the air!

It covers any part of the onesie that was clean, the wall and the changing pad! I pride myself in being fast at catching fountains but this one defeated me! After wiping the pee from the wall quickly and getting over the shock of how many little explosions we had in just a few minutes I laughed! Motherhood is great!

Kissing Cousins!

Drew loves having cousin Allison and Allison is a terrific big cousin. She is very curious, sometimes jealous but very sweet to baby Drew. She is still learning what a kiss is but has the general idea. Notice forehead to forehead is also considered a good kiss!

Check this out!!

Baby Shark!

Yesterday was our first trip to the pool! Summer does not feel like a real summer to me without some time in the warm sun preferably beside a pool. We headed out to Melissa to visit Kristin, Frank and Allison and take advantage of their huge neighborhood pool. I found a cute monster truck swimsuit for Drew just Friday and was also able to get it half price since the season is coming to an end. It was a 0-3 months and still too big. The waist does not fit yet but he we are counting on him growing! We greased up our little ones when we got to Kristin an Frank's and went to the pool. Allison was also nice enough to share her little float. It is made to set kids in, feet going through the bottom with a sun visor on top but we rigged it to act like a raft for our baby shark.

He was completely happy like this. Hardly any water touched him but it made for a perfect bed! He actually did SLEEP though the entire experience! What a life!

Allison was lots of fun too! She was all over the baby pool not afraid to face plant into the water. She had her own personal attendant to just follow her around ;)

Both cousins!

Check out Allison in the lower right hand corner of this picture! Barely made it in but happy that she did!

Eric is sporting a Sponge Bob Squarepants band aid on his head. He bumped it on the car door when we arrived. Oops...

A cookout followed our swimming fun and then a little game time. It was a perfect summer day!

A Trip to the Hospital

July 31st was Drew's due date! I can't believe that he would have just gotten here! As ironic as it is, somehow we still ended up with him in the hospital, on his due date, Friday night. Now let me back up a little and explain what has been going on. Drew has been having some problems with acid reflux. He has been spitting up and acting like he is hurting while eating. The spitting up continued to worsen as he covered more than just the burp cloth but continued to cover himself, the boppy, the floor...We told this to his Doctor in one of our routine visits. He put him on Zantac for the acid reflux. It seemed to help Drew with the pain but the spitting up did not get any better. I was glad to see him not hurting and thought that maybe the spitting up was just a normal "baby thing".

Friday, July 31, after about a week on the Zantac, I called the Dr. back and asked if these were the results we were supposed to be seeing. We were told the spitting up should have decreased so they were switching us to Privacid Saturday morning. Friday evening the spitting up took a turn for the worst. He was spitting up excessively 4-5 times during and after his feeding. He also seemed like he was in alot of pain. He was having a hard time eating and would cry when he ate. By this point it was 8:00 PM on a Friday night. I was fearful that if his feedings continued like they were becoming, it would be a painful and difficult night.

I called a friend of mine from high school, who is now a Doctor, and explained to her the situation. I felt so grateful to have someone so close to ask! She said that is sounded like it could be pyloric stenosis. This condition would require a sonogram of the stomach and a simple surgery if that was the diagnosis. The concern was dehydration if he continued to spit up too much. Eric was leaving to go out of town the next morning so we decided to go ahead and take him to the Children's in Plano that night.

After some blood work and an x-ray the Doctors in the emergency room ruled that he was probably suffering from acid reflux with LOTS of gas. His x-ray of his stomach showed a stomach full of air pockets. I was told to be sure and stay away from the spinach, beans and broccoli. Eric and I were relieved that it was nothing more serious. We left the ER at 2:00 AM and headed home. The Privacid seems to be helping and one dose of Mylacon before each meal is helping him pass some serious gas!

Kristin, Frank and Allison came over yesterday. This picture is of Allison kissing baby Drew. Kristin would kiss Drew's head and make a kissing noise. Allison would put her face to Drew's head and make the same noise even though there was not actual kiss. It was precious! They love being cousins!
